This argument is thousands of years old - it's science against
religion by those who see the 2 as opposed.

I've spoken with an IDer or 2 and here's their problem: "genesis says
that blah, blah, blah, and therefore man didn't come from monkeys."

Ignoring the misunderstanding of lineage, all they're basically saying
is that what it says literally in the Bible is not meshing with
evolution and, therefore, they're siding with the Bible.

My response is that, if you're being intellectually honest, you either
have to say that the Bible is a flawed book of Man containing
translated stories about God, or you need to learn Aramaic, Greek, and
Hebrew before you can even begin to make another claim.

I also like to pull out the fact of how the Bible says that pictures
of yourself and family are sinful due to vanity and the fact that
they're "graven images", the only purpose of which is to worship
yourself; a big Bible no-no.

Anyway all this shows to me is that Man has not yet figured out how to
merge spirituality, religion, and science.

WARNING: Personal Philosophy Below

What I know for a fact is that I have an intellect and can reason. If
God is my creator then He gave me these abilities and I don't believe
he did that only to tell me to ignore them and "have faith". He
expects me to use them.

The whole "have faith" line is cop out and exit ramp for
intellectually lazy people who don't want to continue to seek The
Truth as the apostle Thomas instructed them to do.

"Have faith" is the Church's mechanism to excuse people from work
since most people would quit if that mechanism didn't exist.
