If you really want to use weights for weight loss, you're best off
doing something like a circuit training workout - low weights, high
reps, interspered with bursts of aerobic activity (stationary bike,
elliptical, etc). There's a million variations on this theme. I think
our gym calls it "turbo power" or something equally dorky. It's the
same thing that Curves does, though - very successful for weight loss
and toning.
