Who makes the board and CPU for Apple? What about the power supply, RAM, and the rest of the components?
It comes from exactly the same companies as those who make Dell, IBM, and HP. Intel makes the boards and procs. Most of the Ram is Samsung the graphics are either ATI or nVidia, just like everybody else. I speced out a Dell, without my discount, and the price for a dell with 2ghz Dual core proc, 2 gig of ram, 17 inch monitor, 250 gig drive, 256 meg ATI video, 16x DVD and it came to $1,017. A comparable iMac, with 128Mg video was $1500, again, without my discount. To say that I'm to cheap to buy a good computer is kinda silly. I'm too cheap to may more for the same exact thing. At home I'm not even going to buy a dell. I'd rather build my own, get exactly the things I want. Apple doesn't make computers anymore. They have an OS and an MP3 player. I bought a two new laptops about a year ago. I looked at the intel macbook and a Dell E1505. At the time it would have cost over $1000 more each to buy the Apple. The Dells are running great with Vista Ultimate on them. A camera lens is in a different world. I have some pretty nice equipment. I've been using Nikon for years, but my normal lens is a Sigma 28-70 f2.8 It cost around $300 and I've had it for several years. It gives the same quality image as the $900 Nikon. I've used them both extensively. But you are right, the cheaper lenses use cheaper components. But that is obvious. You try to get a 300mm focal length in such a small package you are going to get distortion and it isn't going to work well in low light. It is just as much of a physics lesson as it is a quality lesson. They are cheaper because they use fewer smaller elements, and the light metering doesn't work as well. In the desktop/laptop world, the hardware is the same. Apple finally realized the desktop is a commodity, they just aren't pricing it that way yet. > -----Original Message----- > From: Dave l [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Sunday, February 25, 2007 7:11 PM > To: CF-Community > Subject: Re: Why Vista is a rip off of OS X > > "Dell, IBM, HP can ALWAYS under cut Apple on costs." > Yeah they can undercut apple and to do so they use crap components, > basically they use whatever they can get that nobody else wants, bottom of > the barrel junk. > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Create robust enterprise, web RIAs.
