See now that (retire to the dessert) is an idea I can get behind. Let
them kill each other in the cities, we'll hang out here in our base, let
us know when your done and we'll help with rebilding and elections :)

That is a question for the military and political leadership HERE.

I agree with Greg in that if we meet someone on the battlefield - kill
em.
If you cant kill em for whatever reason - lock em up for the duration.
Build a real Hogans Heroes prison camp.
If you are unsure, but think they are the bad guys, then weigh the
political and military risks, then either watch them, lock em up and
question them, or kill em. Err on the safety of Americans here.

But, the other problem is that we are there. If we pulled out to
Kuwait, of just the middle of the Iraq desert, much (if not most) of
the violence against Americans would cease.
Violence against Iraqis would go way up, but much of the current
violence of Americans would go down, I believe.

The people attacking us then would be attacking us because they really
don't like us, not because we are "taking Arab lands", or standing in
the middle of a civil war.

If we truly are trying to stop the civil war (which is a completely
different situation than the alQaeda fight), we need WAY more troops.
Overwhelming troops. And minimal rules.
