I actually have polled large numbers of military, both those in uniform, those who have gotten back out, and those who have retired. And even there, you are in a minority
The consesus is: we should NEVER have gone into Iraq. We should have finished Afghanistan with everything we had available, and emptied the cupboard there. Once that was done, if we decided that Iraq needed to be dealt with, we should have massed on Iraqs borders, completely undistracted by any other efforts, and then, if we decided to go in, should have gone in with both boots. With all of our might. If this were really a war, we would be asked to go join up. And to sacrifice a little for the effort. Instead, we have been told to "go shop, and keep doing what you are doing". With all that said, the question still becomes - where to from here? What we are doing now does not seem to be working. Is the increase of 20K troops going to turn the tide? What happens 6 months from now when people are scheduled to rotate out?
