>Then our vet and the breeder we bought the dog from both misled me. >The quote was something along the lines of, "with a dog this small, >she'll get most of the exercise that she needs running around the >house."
Ah yeah, as someone with small dogs myself, it is frustrating to hear that people get that kind of information. Dogs get bored being in the same surroundings all the time, just as people do! They do so much better if they are taken out regularly, whether to a dog park, obedience class, whatever. There's just more to having a happy, relaxed dog than just physical exercise...just like with kids, they do best with mental challenge as well! Not that another companion for your dog is a bad idea...but it's no substitute for spending time yourself with them, and certainly is not likely to help with the problems as you describe them. >Regardless. Moxie goes outside and loves to play, of all things, >soccer! I try to take time to play with her and the kids play with >her as well, but there are times when she's home alone for most of the >morning and early afternoon. That's pretty good exercise and lots of fun. The more you can do in the morning before leaving her as well the better. Even if it's just throwing a ball for her while having breakfast. ;-) >Will have to google that unless you care to expand? LOL, go-to-ground is what these terrier-type breeds do...hunt for rats and other vermin. There's all different groups and types of GTG trials...AKC actually has trials specifically for dashies: http://www.akc.org/events/field_trials/dachshunds/index.cfm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| ColdFusion is delivering applications solutions at at top companies around the world in government.
