>speaking of trainning. >the wife and i are still having HUGE issues with 'come' >also Lucy always pulls.
I'd love to get into more discussion of this but I simply don't have the time! Actually I have an obedience class to go to soon. ;-) Just quickly on come...there are two BIG rules if you are trying to train a good come. First, use a very distinctive "come" and reward any response from the dog at first. If they actually do come, I personally would definitely give a treat or food reward of some kind. Gradually randomize this with LOTS of praise when the dog comes. Rule two, never, ever call the dog if you are going to do something unpleasant. Don't use "come" if you are going to crate them or brush them, etc. Dogs are smart, if they usually only hear "come" when you want to stop them from having fun or do something like give them a bath, there's just no incentive for them to respond. I *love* training a fast, enthusiastic come. My older dog is so reliable, I've been able to get him back when he's taken off after a squirrel. For pulling, there are a couple of things. One is to stop going forward anytime the dog pulls. A smart dog usually will figure out fairly quickly that they have to stay with you to keep you going forward. ;-) A good obedience class working on heelwork would certainly help as well. You might want to check out this page I did many years ago. I sold the site and I don't know how up-to-date it is, but it's got links to lots of basic training information. http://www.dogpatch.org/obed/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Check out the new features and enhancements in the latest product release - download the "What's New PDF" now http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/coldfusion/cf8_beta_whatsnew_052907.pdf Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:244032 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5
