Speaking of training, I would shy away from those feel-good give the dog a treat every time they lick their balls properly type schools. Dogs don't need treats to listen. I had a Golden Retriever that was trained by me without a single treat and never laid a hand on her. Once you have asserted yourself as the alpha male, dogs tend to listen to you. Nothing worse than a treat-dependent fat animal that is scared of his/her own shadow.
Also, the most important thing is to re-enforce that training. They tend to forget.
