I'm in your "show strength" camp, but you don't fight the bully by punching everyone in the crowd while only landing one or two on the bully. When you fight like that, you inflict little damage on the bully, you tire yourself out to point where you can't throw the knockout punchout any longer, and everybody ends up hating you.
