This guy lived 3 minutes (walking) from the beach. He moved to take the job
at my company. It's just him and his wife and kid (altho they're planning
for more kids). Part of her "requirements" for leaving a (small) house by
the beach to move inland was that she wanted a nice big house.
Frankly, if I could afford it, I'd be doing that as well. We've got 3 kids
and having extra room for them to run around, or designate as a playroom,
would be great. Also, both my parents and my wife's parents live out of
town, so having extra room for them to stay over when they visit (versus a
hotel) would be cool.

Given the way house prices were coming down in that area (and still are)...
and the hope that they'll eventually rebound, I think it's a pretty good
investment.
