"But this is anecdotal and I don't think you can hang the de-funding of
schools exclusively on immigration vs say war spending."

School spending is a state level issue. War funding is a federal level
issue. States do receive federal aid for schools. I bet you can guess
where I stand on that issue though.

Kudos for the home schooling. Although we don't do it, I am a big
supporter.

BTW, there is an easy fix for school funding. A way that public schools
would have fewer students and more money to spend on students. It's called
vouchers. If a state averages 10K per student and starts giving 5k
vouchers, the state would be ahead 5k for every student who leaves. Fewer
schools to build, smaller class sizes, etc., etc., etc.

"all twelve million of them or whatever :D You know there's no budget for
that."

I know. There's a budget for extending jobless benefits ad nauseam , but
no budget to remove illegal aliens whose presence has contributed mightily
the number of citizens who do not have jobs. Go figure.

"well ok if the standard is that we don't need to be better that a corrupt
dictatorship, then sure."

But, but, but, Mexico is our friend. It's not a corrupt dictatorship, is
it? Seriously, it it is a corrupt dictatorship (which pretty much describes
90% of all Central American countries), then the US should be taking
diplomatic action to help rectify the situation.

I don't want the US to stoop to the level of Mexico in keeping immigrants
out. I just want the immigrants who come to do it legally. We should not
give special immigration privileges to Mexicans, especially since they give
no leniency to any immigrants.

"That medical screening was a joke ;P and there is actually a local
non-profit clinic that seems pretty busy. It takes medicaid but according
to the writeups most people pay cash and/or are subsidized by donations."

I am all for the non-profit clinic, especially the part being subsidized by
donations. However, how many illegals use it versus those who don't? How
many towns don't have such a place?

"Ok, and here again, yeah there are gangs amongst illegal immigrants, as we
saw in Salinas, but there are other gangs too...."

You see my point then. It is harder to concentrate on gangs and made up of
citizens and other crimes when time has to be divided up to deal with all
gangs and other crimes. BTW, In 2006, illegal aliens made up 17% of the
prison population in our country, but only 3% of the population. It was
estimated that over 50% of CA's inmate population was made up of illegal
immigrants. These are Justice Dept figures.

"Missed it. No information on the subject, pro or con."
