My recent understanding has bent that Jews actually bought the land that forms modern day Israel from the Jordanians etc. This does not account for the West Bank and Gaza strip which were lost to Israel in a war they didn't start, which they won. This is according to my English father-in-law. It's hard to fathom what has been misreported, but I would like to say that the Israelis, much like the IRA used to, seem to be constantly targeting American heartstrings. Sometimes it's so transparent it's offensive, and I don't know who or what to believe. My apologies if anyone's offended.
