Kevin, First off I am in no way a supporter of any group like PETA or other radical animal rights groups. If anything I am very much against their agenda.
It also depends on what type of zoo you're talking about. Many zoos are quite good, the state and municipally sponsored zoos, and similar organizations like the National Zoo are very active in conservation, and attempt to make the exhibits into an appropriate environment for the animals. Most of the privately run zoos, typically the roadside attraction kind, are little better than hellholes. The animals are inadequately housed and fed, mistreated and in some cases actually tortured. Frankly these private zoos really should be run out of business. They belong to the same ignorant primitive era as freak shows and dog fighting. larry -- Larry C.
