I will tell you, as someone who has been active in the peace movement in US for over 30 years, that none of the true peace organizations advocate violence. If you would sign on to some of the planning lists for the marches, you would see for yourself that the instructions to the marchers are always about non-violent protest. But as with any movement, the fringe groups will latch on and pursue their own agenda, often to the total distress of those of us who are trying to get the message out of peace. I don't worry as much about the undercover cops as I do with the plants put at the rallies specifically to cause violence or damage and make the peace activists look bad to the general public. Nixon and his dirty tricksters did this to great effect during the Vietnam protests. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if the person who did the much publicized 'spitting on the returning troops' was a plant, because no one I know of who truly believes in peace would behave that way. The anti-globalization and environmental movements have some elements that are more likely to cause problems, but even those are vastly in the minority, and the planners wish they would go away. One broken store window at a march costs us more good-will than a million peaceful protesters can engender. An oft used motto in the peace movement is this: Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity. And that includes violence at the peace marches and rallies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribe&forumid=5 Your ad could be here.
