In the states this is all an ISP thing, and most ISPs will pull your account
if they find you "sharing".  However it's very hard to discover this and
there are still a bunch of groups trying to pull it off - we have so many
schools around here (including MIT which accounts for more than a few
grassroots efforts) that we're actually getting pretty good coverage.

Although while some ISPs are working to stop this others are using it as a
feature.  SpeakEasy.net for example (a DSL provider) has plans specifically
targeted at people that want to share the connection.

I think with all the insanely cheap 802.11b hardware out there that we'll
see that first with 802.11g taking over later once it's finalized and the
hardware gets cheaper.
