handouts. Why didn't people live on charity? Because back in the day if
you needed charity you felt guilt. Today when people receive their handout
they feel entitled.
Don't get me started on drugs. There is an entire industry that we are
really missing the boat on because of our puritanical nature and our
religious history blocking out our rational mind.

Great point.
Some people regard theft as a profession. Some deal in drugs, some people
kill for hire. A reasonable society prevents these actions as much as
possible, as well as preventing starvation.

If society forbids them to support themselves in certain ways that society
finds unacceptable, society assumes the responsibility to support them to a
reasonable extend.
