Being professional doesn't always mean being right. Start up costs are high but there are trade offs. I've worked with ASP and done some meddling in PHP and I can honestly say that my language of choice is CF.
For example I have found debugging someone else's mish mash code easier in CF than other languages. I've experienced a site written in ASP by 1000 drunken monkeys and a similar site in CF. I never fully understood the ASP site but I fully understand what was being done in the CF site. I'd suggest that you could get the same group of professionals to either Bag Unix or Windows. Who's right on that score? I don't know, the point is they're probably PHP or .net evangelists and say what they say because CF is not the true religion and yes professionals do this.
