i think it is where it is easyest to draw blood.  easyest to find the vein.

That is the common area to withdraw blood from a dog or cat.  I used to work in a cat hospital and that is what they did.  Also, my Aussie, Zoe, has an auto-immune disease and requires blood tests every 3 months or so.  They always withdraw from the neck artery (carotid artery).  It doesn't seem to hurt them at all, even if they bruise.

As you all know, Katie was spayed and had 12 teeth pulled on the 30th.  Please look at these 2 pics and tell me why she has that bruise on her neck?!?!
