You also mentioned in your previous post that the vet had given you HW meds for a dog that weighs 11 pounds and up. You said Paco only weighs 10. I said I would not give it to him and return and get the proper size for him. It is a Federal law for all dogs to be tested for HW before you are given a prescription. Dogs that have been known to have side effects including death from HW Meds is usually because the dog already had HW (they could have gotten the meds illegally) or they were give the wrong dose for their body weight, or the owners gave them their meds to soon, i.e, every two or three weeks instead of once a month. I know of some one who accidentally gave her yorkie her labs med which was way to strong for the yorkie. The yorkie survived, but still has seizures, and a damaged liver from it.
I don't think any of us like the fact that we have to give them HW meds, Flea preventatives, booster or rabies shots. But lets face it, if they were to contact any of those things, then the outcome would be much more serious then the prevention. Actually the HW meds are safer then the spot on flea and tick meds. I have never heard of a Vet who didn't believe in giving dogs HW meds.
