Dogs will not know what they did 30min-2 hours later. so they think you are punishing them for nothing. then they become fearful and a biter. Take him outside often. 5-6-7 times a day if you have too. reward him for going potty outside. carry treats with you on the walk and give him one when he goes. Its not an overnight cure. Its work! They have to learn that potty is for outside. My advice is NOT to punish this dog in anyway for pottying in the house... only because you say he came from an abusive home prior. This will not help him. It will only make things worse. Sample: Lets say you got a job that you knew nothing about. Did not know how to work a machine or whatever at this new job. No one gave you instructions. What if the boss came over to you because you messed up the machine and smacked you?? would that help you learn how to work the machine? Don't you think if the boss came over and gave you nice calm instructions you would learn? YES... :) Its the same with a dog that knows nothing. You can also crate train him. meaning buy a wire crate big enought for him to stand up, turn around and lay down. if its too big he will soil in the crate. The point to this is a dog, unless left for hours and hours and has no choice, will not potty in there own sleeping place. My Ricky still has his moments with leaving his contributions in the house, but usually its when I have not taken him out on a regular basis as I should. I have puppy pads on my patio and have also gone out with him to do his business there. I always stay with him so he does not feel alone or abandoned. He also gets a "good boy" and treat when he goes outside & he loves it! Please do not hit, punish or in anyway be angry with this dog. He knows nothing and he already came from abuse. He is about 1-yr old. Well,our friend was having a hard time potty training him,so are we. We have rubbed his nose in it,and tried everything....does anyone have ideas on how to break him of this?
