Good morning list,
We have a situation going on right now in Dallas that is most upsetting.
A cavalier was stolen on the 6th of Aug. Police were notified, ad and
reward offered put in the Dallas newspaper, vets notified, posters put
up, shelters called etc. Nothing! The owner went in personally to the
SPCA the following week with pictures of the dog. Showed them to the
woman in charge who immediately said, "we don't get many Cavaliers but
we had one last week - it has already been spayed and placed in a home".
Rescue had not been called - their story is their numbers are old and
probably wouldn't have worked. They refused to tell the owner who had
his cavalier or who had turned it in. He then asked the SPCA to call
the people and offer a very substantial reward. He kept calling back
and was being stonewalled. They finally said the people refused the
offer and said the man should be happy his dog was with a loving family.
The stonewalling continued - director out of town etc. Finally, this
week, he was told the case had been "kicked upstairs". All our hopes
rose thinking this situation was going to be corrected and the dog would
be returned. Wrong - all that has turned out to mean is they checked
with a lawyer and "they, the SPCA, has done nothing wrong". The
detective in charge is still being stonewalled. Meanwhile, days are
passing, the man is devastated and nothing is happening. I am appalled
at the attitude of the woman who now has the dog! I wonder how she
would feel if her 12 year old daughter was stolen and placed in a new
home. Would she also feel she should be happy the child was with a
loving family!!! Where is the moral responsibility of all the people
involved in this??? We will continue to try to get this rectified.
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
