Hi Marilyn,
I had a similar situation and it was very distressing for all concerned.
The puppy was eventually returned (after trying private training and many
sessions with behaviorist, etc.) and re-homed with an older couple, who also
had a dog (the first family did not). It has been over six months now and
the puppy is doing great and the new owners couldn't be happier.
As for the family who returned the puppy . . . I replaced it. This time
everything worked out beautifully!
