Hi Listers!
My boy Derby (Peakdowns Derby) went Winners yesterday and received his first
major. He is only 81/2 months old. To say the least, I was ecstatic. It
looked like he would probably receive another major today. He did go Best of
Winners but unfortunately, no major there.
I own the Pet Chalet, a boarding and
grooming facility in Lexington, Kentucky. I take care of others pets 24
hours a day, 7 days a week. As much as I would like to travel and show my
own dogs, I cannot. I am able to get to a few shows so I can watch (but not
every weekend). I know how important it is to watch!! But during peak times
of the year, it is impossible. I have a niece that is interested in showing
and handling dogs. She is 14 years old and lives with my parents. We are a
family of dog lovers. :-) My parents are retired and on weekends they travel
to shows with my niece and show my dogs. Fortunately, this works out great
for me.
My niece called me from the dog show today. Derby took Best of Winners.
There was no major because a lady pulled her dog and busted the major. Prior
to showing my boy Derby, this breeder came up to my niece and asked about
Derby. She asked about his points. My niece told her he only needed one
more major and a couple of points. So this breeder pulls her dog and busts
the major. I am just so angry. I can't believe anyone would do such a
thing. Heaven knows, I wouldn't! This breeder also asked my niece about
Crystal (my finished Royal Legend daughter). She told her I was planning to
breed her. She said to my niece "she doesn't look old enough to breed" and
then started asking if her eyes, heart, etc., had been tested. My niece and
parents know very little about these dogs. They go to the shows because they
enjoy dogs and showing. It is fun for them as it should be.
I am a newbie to Cavaliers. I have only been in the breed for 2 years. I
have mentors here in the US and in the UK. I have learned that if I plan on
breeding I must test (eyes, hips, heart, patella) first. I've learned about
the MVD protocol. I am still learning and have yet to breed my first litter.
Although I am new to this breed, I'm here to stay. It was not easy getting
into this breed. And I wasn't meet with many open arms.
I am disappointed, angry and sad that someone would pull their dog to bust a
major and talk with my 14 year old niece about matters she knows nothing
about.
My question to you all is "Why would anyone do such a thing?"
Thanks for letting me vent! I feel better now!
