> Not all dogs exude type...and not all dogs are unhealthy. However,
when all someone has to say about a dog is that it passed all its health
tests, I wonder why that person isn't bragging about how beautiful it is.
Nobody with a brain doesn't do health tests...as far as I'm concerned, it's
a given. Beauty is not a given.

The reason the people I know will only say a dog passed all its health
tests, is because the only reason that dog was health tested was because it
WAS typey. They wouldn't have the dog, show the dog, if it wasn't typey.
They assume everyone knows this already so it doesn't need to be repeated.
The fact that it passed it's health tests means that it CAN now also be
bred. That is why I mentioned breeders only use type when picking puppies
(and temperament). Even the most obnoxiously health oriented breeder
evaluates a litter just as you would. They keep the *best* puppy. They run
it on. If it continues to look good they start to show it. So long as it
remains show quality, they keep on showing it. If it doesn't turn out, they
would place it in a pet home! Passing it's health tests is the final bonus
and saying *yea, the dog can be used in a breeding program--it is both typey
and healthy!*

> Maybe you think no one could think of this without breeding dogs who
have health problems...it occurs to me that the people who whinge the most
about health problems must certainly run into them all the time or they'd
not find it so bloody important.

Does it ever occur to some of you that the reason most breeders *whinge the
most about health problems* is because we actually listen to the buyers
coming to us for a second Cavalier? As I keep saying over and over, we do
NOT live in a vacuum! We hear about all the puppies--both show and
pet--that are sold with problems (in great detail) and we empathize with the
buyers. And we are determined to lower that risk as much as possible for
all future buyers.
