No doubt Cavaliers are at the lower end of the list so far as numbers of problems that can affect them, BUT MVD is quite serious. Whether it is as much or more a problem than cancer is in Goldens? Probably fairly equal. Another thing to think of is the numbers of Cavaliers are still on the low side (although it is fast becoming a popular breed). We have an advantage over Goldens and Labs and other breeds that have been at the top because of this. We should take advantage of it and do everything we can NOW to improve age of onset of MVD, percentage afflicted with HD or luxating patellas, BEFORE we are breeding 50,000 or more a year.
