Dear Susan,

I understand that testing guarantees nothing, but testing and then
only breeding those that pass, plus following the protocol, gives the
best possible odds that we can hope for. I still don't see why anyone
who tests and breeds responsibly wouldn't want everyone to know it.

It may be naive to hope that the majority of people seeking to buy a
pet Cavalier will know what papers to ask for, but if more breeders made
KNOWN the fact that they have these results.....I suppose by listing the
results in a data base, then it might make it easier to educate prospective
buyers.

I know there are good breeders out there, and I agree that *those* breeders
are doing their level best. The problem is that there aren't enough breeders
like that.

Yes, it *SHOULD* be a given that breeding stock is checked by cardiologists,
but unfortunately I (and many others) don't believe that's the case. (And I
shouldn't limit that to hearts..... I'm also referring to hips, eyes, etc.)

I can't tell you how often I'm contacted by someone looking for a Cavalier. All I
can do is suggest what questions to ask and what test results they need to see.
I tell them to *never* take anything for granted. It's really a case of Buyer Beware.

Nobody is asking for a guarantee......nothing in life is guaranteed. But I don't think
it unreasonable to expect that all that CAN be done IS being done.

And those that are doing it should shout it from the rooftops.
