I have come across some interesting information and would like to learn
more.
If retinal folds are allowed under cerf, but dogs with folds should not be
bred together why?
And
if folds, geographic dysplasia and retinal detatchment are related defects
how then do they allow folds. Is not one just a more extreme expresion of
the next two deffects?
If one should not breed two dogs affected with folds will they risk
producing gd or rd?
testing puppies under 9 weeks can show folds that will later cover over, but
why bother, if folds are not a problem?
Can one test breed a dog with folds to one who is thought clear and then
test their puppies to see if the pups have folds or even gd or rd??
Are folds gd and rd similar to Collie eye annomoly in their mode of
inheritance when in CEA you can do a test breeding to a known carrier or
affected dog to determine if the other dog is a carrier and not affected?
A percentage of the puppies will test clear, and a number affected. However
the "clear" pups would be carriers like the one parent that was being
tested. It takes two carriers to produce affected or carriers.
OK I am listening.
