Well what about the strain on the dogs heart and the "increased blood flow" when he is doing you know what! VBG Some years ago when one of my 7 year old bitches was untrasounded (no audible murmur) but had small jet but good thin valves on untrasound, the cardiologist told me she could and should be mated again at that age as that was the kind of hearts we should be trying to perpetuate, Once again I would like to point out that all this discussion from Laura et al is fine for you people in the USA. The situation can be quite different for caring breeders in other parts of the world. In Sydney the Club runs 2 heart clinics a year with a specialist who is NOT available to breeders at other times unless referred by general vet with a specific problem. He does a max of about 60 dogs each session.. You can go to Sydney University and get your dogs tested there by the teaching vets in the vet school but an untrasound will set you back a couple of hundred dollars. In many parts of Australia specialists are just not available - some regional areas sometimes organise an all breed testing clinic and bring in a specialist but this may be only once a year. In some parts of Australia and NZ there are no specialists available at all. So all you people who are expecting bits of paper to be available on every dog possible may be disappointed. However this does not mean that in other parts of the world we don't care - it means we do the best we have with what is available.
