Sandra,

I have a new puppy that is now housebroken, so I'll just tell you what I
did and maybe it will help your puppy buyers. I decided to keep him in his
crate rather than an x-pen (at my vet's advice) until he was completely
housebroken. My vet said that if I wanted him to learn to potty *only*
outside that this was the way to do it, and since it was only temporary it
wasn't cruel. This has worked great for us!

A couple of times, Nick did potty in his crate. I realized this was my
fault, and I started making absolutely sure that he had peed and pooped
*both* before I put him in his crate. Nick also ate poop, and I got some
Forbid to sprinkle on both his and Madeleine's food, and this has taken
care of the problem. This should not be used on the food of a dog with
heart problems though.

Finally, there is an excellent book called, "The Evans Guide to
Housetraining Your Dog," by Michael Job Evans. This can be found on
amazon.com. I hope this will help. I know each puppy is different, and my
Madeleine was extremely hard to housetrain. Nick has been by far the
easiest! I think the owner has a lot to do with it. I did everything
wrong with Madeleine, and I believe I did most everything right with Nick.

Just one more thing, the couple of times Nick pottied in his crate, I wiped
it out with Nature's Miracle, and put a little Nature's Miracle in the
washing machine to get the smell out. Also, as others have said, scoop
scoop scoop to keep the area clean!
