Hi Everyone - I found the answer. Rosanne Cleveland-King was here learning the Membership Secretary job this past weekend and as we were innocently slitting a huge pile of envelopes with the letter slitter that I got free from the bank over Christmas, (I don't know what they're really called) she innocently mentioned "you know these are really good for getting mats out from behind their ears." What a find! It WORKS!! Bentley had a pretty big one - for him - about the size of a quarter and slit, slit slit - it was gone!!! They're the small plastic, sort of rectangle openers you can buy or most often get free, with a tiny razor imbedded in the inside corner. I can't believe I never thought of it myself. Just start at the mat and work outward. Now I have to go find more...
