You have to remember that the amount of food should be geared to the amount
of exercise. A dog that goes out during the day and spends a lot of time
chasing birds and butterflies and playing with other dogs will need more
food, especially in the winter, than a dog that lies in the house all day
and seldom moves a muscle. Also, each dog has a different metabolism. We
usually feed a coffee mug full ( about 1 & 1/2 cups) of premium edge to our
adults. They also get extra protein ( either an egg, or hamburger or
chicken) mixed into their food. However, some get 3/4 that amount of food as
they get fat on the regular ration while others will get 2 cups as they seem
to burn up calories and have trouble keeping weight on. Also, I have found
that people tend to "not count" the doggie bisquits or treats when figuring
total intake. These must be considered if you have a dog that is getting
"porkie".

All the best,
Susan Cochran
