Hi all!!

Micro-chipping is also becoming very popular over here in the UK too, I
have had puppy buyers request for their pup to be chipped prior to them
picking it up. The system is a little different here as we have to get our
vet to do it, I am not aware of a company that will sell batches of pre-
registered chips to individual breeders over here, if any-one does know of
such of a company in the UK please do drop me a line with the details?

I had my two new show hopefuls chipped last year, the chips used
were "Identichip" and they are not supposed to migrate but fuse into the
dogs skin. I was horrified at the size of the punch that the vet produced
to chip them both with, but it was very quick and they didn't bat an eyelid
either of them, nor did they scratch at their necks either as some of the
pups do when they have their vaccinations.

It is routine practice here in the UK that when a stray dog is taken into a
dogs home or the like that they are routinely scanned to see if they have a
chip or not, it is also a very definate way, I think, of proving that a dog
is who you say it is, after all I could show you a dog and say it's "Fred"
then turn up with another very similar dog at a show saying that this one
is "Fred" a quick flash of the scanner would soon tell you if I was showing
you the real "Fred" or not!!

I think that this is a very good system indeed and I shall be chipping more
of my dogs in the future for sure!!

Best to all

Cathryn
