This is exactly what happened with two of my dogs. They were having blood tests before surgery and the lab had to do "hand counts" as both of them were way, way low. After the hand counts all went well. One had knee surgery and the other had a spay and neither had thrombocytopenia. I too hope this is the case with your dog.
