Yes. The average handler today asks for $75 just to walk into the ring with a dog. Some ask more and some less. This is in addition to the fee you paid to enter the dog--usually $20-$25. If the dog wins beyond Best of Breed--further payment is usually expected--a bonus so to speak. I have no idea how much this is but I would expect $50 to $100 depending on just how well the dog does (group placement, group win or even Best in Show). If the dog stays with the handler a daily fee is charged. I have no idea what this is but it was about $4 a day 20 years ago. I would guess it is close to $10 a day by now. Big money exchanges hands for those employers who hire handlers to win for them. Lots of times the original owner, possible breeder, isn't the one with the money though. Good handlers actually have *clients* who are looking for the next great dog to *back* (finance). They become a co-owner of the dog and pay all the bills. Sometimes even the owner-handler has someone backing them/paying the bills. I think most of the top dogs being campaigned are *financed* this way.
