HI Myra, And doesn't Elaine do a wonderful job? Have you ever noticed the ears on your dogs "lopped off" when they were returned to you? I can't imagine she lopped of the ears on the dogs she showed this weekend at Progressive can you? AS for the statement you responded to when you used that statement. Many people simply do not like to handle their dogs. Period. Or Can't because they physically can not be at the shows or physically can't move around the ring. Are they to be denied the pleasure of their dogs competing? Does that make their dogs unfinishable? Does that mean that they should not be involved in the breed or contribute. I am not condoning what happens too often in the AKC ring.But it is not like it was unforseeable. Elaine and I try to educate as manu as we can when we are there but we are only two people. Handlers yes but Cavalier breeders first and foremost. How would you propse we handle the situation when we are confronted with owner/handlers who insist on getting on their knees and topping and tailing? We don't and won't get on our knees. Nor will we lop off ears. Nor shave off heads. Nor fill the ears with "Thick N' Thicker". I have a core of Cavalier clients who depend on my judgement as to who and when their dogs should be shown and often to whom they should be bred. That is my contribution to the breed as well as my own breeding program. For those of you who think I can and will finish anything I have included a list of dogs I have shown in Canada and the States. No particular order of preference just as they have come into my head. I would like it if maybe the experts on the list who think they should not have finished to simply say so. They have all been shown without lopped ears and without kneeling and topping and tailing.
