Since I started this whole debarking issue, let me re-assure you that this is a last measure. We have new neighbors moving in today and our dogs last maybe 5 mintues outside before they are barking their heads off. I have to agree with Caludia that when you have a bunch of dogs, not all Cavaliers that the noise can be a real problem.
We are trying to find an alternative solution if at all possible and have not come up with one that works yet. It was a Cavalier breeder years ago that first turned me on to this process. She has been gone many years but it worked on my poodle whom I would have had to re-home. The neighbors were on a mission to have him put out. It may seem barbaric but when you have chronic barkers the noise can drive you crazy. Not all of my Cavaliers bark. But they are some of the biggest offenders. We are only trying to keep the dogs we have and not have to place any. How would you feel if your neighbors dog started barking at 2 am and continued until you either let him into the bedroom or out and then into the bedroom barking all of the way? I am open to all suggestions.
