Paige Elliot's book is very good, but, where the head is carried depends on
many things. The neck set-on is all important. The proper Afghan Hound has
a high set-on (actually, high withers) and carries his head high at a brisk
trot while the greyhound, with lower withers and neck set-on, carries his
head just slightly above the topline level. If the greyhound is forced to
raise his head at the trot, he will lift in front. Any dog if forced into a
flying trot, will have to lower his head, but the flying trot should not be
the gait used in the show ring. However, some people, including some judges,
thinks it looks good. When I judge, I want to see a nice easy and effortless
trot.
