I'm not flaming, or even particularly disagreeing. What I would say is this: Showing is all about breeding. It gets your dogs out there so that you can compare them against other dogs. It helps you to see the faults in your own dog. Sometimes it even helps you to see that your dog probably shouldn't be bred because it is not a good representative of the breed. If you aren't showing, or at the very least, attending a lot of shows, you certainly don't develop an eye for nice breeding stock. If you then go to auctions and purchase dogs from millers...dogs who don't have affix names, just puppy mill names, chances are you are not getting very good quality dogs. You may or may not be getting healthy dogs, but you certainly aren't getting dogs that come with any information about the health of those lines. Now...you've set yourself up as a breeder. Breeding without even a hint as to what correct structure is. Breeding with no clue of the health of the dogs behind yours. Five years down the road, you have produced a lot of cavaliers who may not be healthy, sound, handsome dogs who even look like cavaliers. That's what's wrong with it. It is not in the best interest of the breed. If there is nothing else that we can agree upon it is that the bulk of our decisions have to geared toward doing what is in the best interest of the breed. Myra
