Myra Savant What I would say is > this: Showing is all about breeding. It gets your dogs out there so that > you can compare them against other dogs. It helps you to see the faults in > your own dog.
I completely agree BUT how many people that have really poor dogs in the ring but sincerely believe that they are wonderful, while the rest of the ringside is painfully aware of the lack of quality. I think we would also all agree that in reality, we love th shows and love to win. I certainly do. > If there is nothing else that we can agree upon it is that the > bulk of our decisions have to geared toward doing what is in the best > interest of the breed. Myra Yes, of course. But when one hears all the things I hear as an editor of a dog magazine, and sees all the things I see as a long time exhibitor, I sometimes wonder if pure ego and greed dictate much of our behavior as 'show' people. To me, I draw the line at the welfare of the individual dog, what kind of life he or she will have, the rest (other than health of course) is a point of view. You would all be amazed at the horror stories I hear weekly from people who have bought from 'a top show breeder'.....I get very depressed about it.
