I had the hips of Ch. Roycroft Top Notch (Lenny) xrayed at 9 or 10 months of
age--or around there.  His growth plates were obviously NOT closed!

I took one look and said "looks like he has a lot of growing left to do"--I
was thankful because he was still very small at the time.  And he did grow!
Now at almost 2 years of age, he is still small but definitely over 12
inches tall.

My Contract stipulates that I prefer they be altered by 4 months of age or
after 12 months of age.  I also have a heavy damage clause should the dog
accidentally or purposefully be bred.  So far no one has paid a single bit
of attention to what my contract says.  They all get their dogs altered when
their vet says--6 months for girls, 5 or 6 months for boys.  That is one
thing to remember--no matter how much experience a breeder has, to most pet
owners the vet is the authority--the vet is always right.
