Sh*t happens and we all have disappointments even with the dogs we keep for ourselves. The difference is we are not charging ourselves more OR giving ourselves the dog on the pretense that he is better than it will turn out to be. How can you sell a dog or bitch not as a pet but as something more than a pet and then take no responsibility when it turns out to be just a pet. Breeders are now selling their pet and show dogs at the same price thinking they will avoid responsibility when it doesn't work out. I don't think this absolves them of responsibility. What is happening here is breeders are saying to buyers, "this dog I am selling as a show prospect not as a pet." Then when the dog proves to be unworthy the breeder says, "well, I guess I was wrong,,,, you lose." And if half of the notable Cavalier breeders internationally think this way it still doesn't make it right. It doesn't matter to me if there is a contract involved or not. Morally a spoken contract is the same as a written one. I am not condemning Annette's attitude or anyone else's. I just think we need to think about what responsibility we have when we say a puppy is a show prospect and not be so quick to blame the new owners or fate when it doesn't work out.
