Well, I've been lurking throughout this conversation,
but finally, I thought I'd add my 2 cents. I acquired
my first show prospect in February. Prior to that I
talked with SEVERAL different breeders. The most
outrageous "offer" I had was for a puppy bitch that
was under 2-yrs-old (can't remember her exact age),
from a very well-known kennel, who had never been
shown, and was NOT leash trained. The offer was
$4,000 with 2 puppies back. I declined the offer, and
instead bought a beautiful puppydog from Laura Lang.
I'm still glad I turned down that "offer". So, if any
of you are wondering if there are unreasonable offers
being presented to newbies, there it is.

I see nothing wrong with puppy back deals if the
original price of the show Cavalier was discounted
below common cost of a show dog and both parties agree
up front the compensation is the puppy back to make up
the difference. If the breeder ends up with the value
(cash or puppy) of more then one show puppy by going
rates then it was in my opinion an unfair deal or at
the very least a poor value.
