This happened to a friend, and I am curious as to what you would do. It was about 2 am. Her bitch (not a cavalier) had whelped puppies via c-section the previous day. The bitch became disoriented cleaning one of the puppies cord, and began to chew into the puppy, so that the intestines were exposed and perforated in multiple places, beyond repair. She removed the puppies from the bitch until the bitch was better oriented, and she was fine with the rest of the puppies the next day.
The question is, what would you do with the mutilated puppy at 2 am? Let it suffer for a few hours, carrying it in your pocket to wait for it to die on its own, or put it in the freezer, or wake your vet to do a proper euthanasia?
