We have had a kitten born with it's brains exposed..the top of her head was missing. We drowned the kitten in a bucket of warm water. That happened about 35 years ago..it was difficult but I felt it was the only thing I could do.
A few years ago we had pup born with it's intestines exposed...I've heard that it can be painful when the intestines start to dry..so I kept the pup warm and moist until I could get it to the vet and he made the decision euthanize it. While we waited to get to the vet the pup was quiet and did not appear to be in any more pain than the birth pain..that is he settled down as soon as he got warm. Would I do the same thing to a three month old pup?..no..would I stuff pills down a baby puppy's throat until it got sleepy enough to freeze to death..no. Totally different scenarios. In answer to the pup that was mutilated. I don't know what I would do, if I felt the pup was in extreme pain and I couldn't reach a vet in good time I'd probably use the warm water again.
