Hi Laura,

Interestingly enough my vet and his partner, both of whom are surgeons, just
hired a person who does anesthesia free teeth cleaning to come in twice a
month for clients who desire this service. The ONLY clients that he feels
this is contraindicated for are those whose pets have gingevitis. I have
personally used the Gentle Dental people for almost four years now with no
problems whatsoever. My dogs teeth do not seem to need cleaning any more
frequently than when I had my Vet doing them and putting them under (this
goes for my cats as well). I find an annual cleaning is sufficient for them
and all my dogs teeth are in really good shape, with the exception of my
oldest, Brittany, whose teeth were in already on bad shape when I rescued
her at 3 years old . I understand that a good number of veterinary practices
in Southern CA are now offering this service to their clients. I do know
that the women who are affiliated with Gentle Dentle work for various
veterinary practices throughout San Diego, Orange County and Palm Springs.
Although, I suspect that there are still a good many vets who don't want to
see a lucrative part of their business diminish and try to dicourage clients
from using anyone other than a vet to clean their dogs teeth. I think as
with everything in life, the results depend upon and vary according to the
training and skill level of the person performing the service.

All the best,
Susan V.
