"ban" is a strong word, and something i'd never support. people are free to do 
as they will. it would be nice if they thought about what they were doing 
when they were doing it, is all.

remember that this mailing list is a public event. it is archived online and  
engines like Google even index those archives. anyone who wishes to can 
subscribe or search the archives. same goes for our meetings. this isn't some 
cloistered secret society.

i just don't see the big deal involved in dropping the dollar signs, though i 
can see the harm it does.
