I've seen the archive - it accessible but the point is only to those who really delve for it. And I found I was only able to go back a few pages. A forum allows for a greater overview, and it is more accessible which comes back to why I feel there is a need for the site re-design - the navigation is not readily accessible straight to the mailing list among other things. The entire point of website design is that if it takes more then 5 minutes to find what you want, it's poorly designed. 5 minutes is too much even...
Moderation is not censorship unless in the hands if those who can not handle the responsibility. With potentially increased viewers, the likelyhood for a moderator is a necessary position. In order to attract more people, this is a necessity - or is it preferred that there not be exploration of how to attract new users?

I understand that you have a preference, but compare the site with any other that attracts viewers and you'll find the others employ the ideas I would like the new site if it's agreed upon to use. As I said earlier - if there is a desire to attract more people, considerations have to be acknowledged.
