As to the Linux Client, there is an install script for Linux on Disc 3, it's 
not documented very well but it's there. It has issues (at least for me) but

I haven't been able to get it working but I don't believe it's because of the 
installer. I seem to be having a problem getting my GeForce 2 MX400 to use 
the correct drivers.

UT2003 would be an excellent choice but it definitely requires some decent 
hardware.
