Concerning U of C,

Basically anything concerning the booking of facilities goes through
Students Union, SU. We rent the old Ballroom every Mon, Tue, Wed and still
get bumped out on no or very short notice. Over the past 1.5 years we have
had numerous occasions where we had to relocate 2 x 100 person dance classes
with no notice.

I'm sure that if we were getting a freebee we'd be given lots of notice NOT!

Cheers,

Dave Watkins

My only concern with the UofC is that the booking would probably have
to go through the Student Union. Based on past experiences they were
pretty expensive to rent / book rooms for events for non SU
activities. I know this because I ran a club while I was a student
there and though the rooms were free to SU clubs, SU club activities
were pretty expensive.

Maybe we can get a SU club to host our meetings. ;}

they are not aware of the DeVry offer. Officially we have been flying under
the radar. The officials at SAIT aren't even aware that we have been meeting
there. I know we have had a number of SAIT students and a few instructors
show up to meetings I hope that they will stay with us if we move. Stability
is certainly an issue with SAIT as it stands now.

the space for as long as we want it. AFAIK we have at least a year of
guaranteed space, no penalty to leave at any time. The only thing they have
asked for (actually we offered) is the advertising on our website under
sponsors and plugging them at meetings. This is all stuff I do as a a matter
of course anyway, no hardship here. The room we have tentatively been
offered could have extra chairs brought in to grow over 100 but we may still
have further options...

have not paid anyone for the use of facilities thus far and that is a huge
thing. How many organizations can say that they don't pay for their meeting
place? Not many I'd wager. We are still not big enough to be able to cover
those kind of costs. I think it is encouraging that we have grown big enough
(or interesting or what-have-you) to catch the eye of places like DeVry.
They are wooing us not the other way around.
