I usually set the ARD on day 11, and make the due date day 12 or 13 (depending on if it's the weekend or holiday). I don't schedule things for the weekend for the team. We often end up doing the MDS, but if the resident looks like they are going to be discharged, I will wait to do the nursing RAPs until day 14. I make sure it is signed by day 14. Sometimes, that means coming in on the weekend or doing things in advance that turn out not to be necessary.

So if you do a 5 day on day 5 and code it 0/1, when do you set your 14 day assessment and complete it, in order to stay compliant with OBRA? I code my first assessment 0/1 and do a d/c tracking 8. Here are some other answers given to this question recently: The top of page 1-15 states "An RAI must be completed for any resident resident residing in the facility longer than 14 days, including:" So it would not be "longer" than 14 days if the resident left before the end of the 14th day. If they left before 11.59 PM on day 14 , an admission assessment is not required. You need to keep any assessment that you started, but did not complete, on the resident's medical record and make a notation about why the assessment was not completed. If any experts out there (Rena? Jan?) disagree, please respond. /---------------------------------------------------------- The Case Mix Discussion Group is a free service of the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators "Committed to the Assessment Professional" Be sure to visit the AANAC website.
